![]() The thing is that standards have been under concerted attack from certain economic/political forces for several decades now. Even just getting into canonical ellipses often causes problems when doing inquiries in the enhanced PDF's when I have been involved in such things. The moment you leave the world of purely simple canonical geometry, you have exceeded PDF's ability to accurately represent geometry. However, overall market-wise, getting Alibre onto the list of file formats supported by E-Drawings would be a good thing when it comes to marketing and sales - and that is my argument.Ĭlick to expand. So long as you are talking lines, arcs, and circles as bounding geometric forms, then enhanced PDF would work fine. That would definitely fall in the good thing category. Yes, I would like to see Alibre develop and distribute their own CAD file viewer and mark-up tool. If you can get them to incorporate Alibre into their list of supported CAD companies, this would (as I see it) provide visibility to the CAD world that would be of value to Alibre. Whereas Daussalt/SolidWorks will develop certain capabilities into E-Drawings on their own, Alibre is probably invisible at that level of their operation. Getting E-Drawings to incorporate Alibre file viewing would gain you visibility. These are companies such as Boeing (Catia-using), Microsoft (ProEngineer- and SolidWorks-using), Siemans (Catia- and ProEngineer-using), and the like - large entities with massive government and Wall Street backing. However, about 30-35% of the work I do is for companies that use E-Drawings as the company-wide internal CAD file viewer program. ProEngineer was the #2 system when it came to government contracts (they are being replaced in that role by SolidWorks - which is owned by the company that owns Catia's code). Catia is the government authorized CAD system in so many arenas and Autodesk is (and has been for nearly three decades) Wall Street's preferred CAD company. Max - In the case of Catia and Inventor, I understand that SolidWorks/E-Drawings would roll their own interface code.
